My campaign for one of two Republican nominations for county commissioner is off to a great start with enthusiastic responses at neighborhood meetings and fund-raising events. Petitions to have my name placed on the ballot secured more than 500 signatures — well in excess of the 100 required by law and more than either of the other two candidates received.
If I haven’t yet met you, I hope we can do that in the coming weeks.
In my first two terms as county commissioner, I worked hard to make Lebanon County stronger, safer and smarter. Here are a few examples of how we did that:
- Put the county in its strongest financial position in decades. This has resulted in a first-ever Standard & Poor’s “A” bond rating and a responsibly funded employee pension system, both of which save taxpayers’ money.
- Established a Day Reporting Center for non-violent offenders, lowering costs and the number of repeat offenders. This has reduced the prison population to its lowest level in five years.
- Increased the county’s cooperation with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to ensure that our citizens are protected from the crimes of illegal aliens.
Now, I need your help more than ever. You see, despite my accomplishments and my experience as a businessman, educator and elected official, political insiders have promised to defeat me. Just as they tried in the past to defeat some of our finest elected officials through scurrilous attacks.
Why? Because I have resisted political pressures in order to do the right thing for Lebanon County taxpayers.
In the coming months, you can expect attempts to tarnish me through negative mailers, radio ads, and maybe even television commercials. All will be misrepresentations of facts or outright lies.
I am counting on your help to debunk such claims among your family, friends and co-workers. I urge you to “like” my “Bill Ames for Lebanon County Commissioner” page on Facebook to stay current with the TRUTH. You are always welcome to call me.
In the meantime, I will conduct myself as a representative of the people, not of special interests. I will never yield to tactics of intimidation and deceit.
Finally, please consider volunteering for some of the activities listed below. And remember to vote for me in the
May 21 primary election.
